contemporary decollage music videos

  1. As an art form, decollage opposes the commercial television scene. The first video illustrates this idea in a literal sense. The television that appears 26 seconds into the video is broadcasting a mirror image of the original. A man watches intently as the television feeds him skewed information. In this sense the video is criticizing the dominance of television. Later in the video, the criticism becomes more literal when a TV explodes similar to Media Burn by Ant Farm.

At about the two minute mark, a star of sky divers appear. Shortly after, their formation breaks apart symbolizing the inherent, deconstructive aspects of decollage.

At its core, this video is something that I could never see airing on TV today. Similar to Media Burn, commercial television would most likely treat this work as foreign or something they do not understand. However, that makes the video a success, in that it is successful at opposing commercial television.
